Counsel & Community: The Safety of Not Walking Alone ~ Tiphanie W. | August 2026
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” - Hosea 4:6
“Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” - Proverbs 11:14
I have been sitting with these two scriptures, and I believe there is a connection between them that I hadn't really considered before. Hosea warns us about what happens when we reject knowledge; when we stop being teachable, when we forget God's instruction, or when we become unwilling to receive what we need to know. Proverbs then gives us another piece of the picture: there is safety in counsel. I believe God never intended for us to have to figure everything out alone. Sometimes He gives us wisdom through His Word, sometimes through prayer, and sometimes through the people He intentionally places in our lives for a particular season.
There is something so humbling about realizing that wisdom is not simply knowing when to move…. it is also knowing when to listen. It is knowing when to ask a question, when to seek another perspective, and when to allow someone with greater experience, discernment, or knowledge to speak into what you are navigating. I have learned that I don't need people around me who simply agree with me. I need people who love me enough to tell me the truth and who are committed to helping me walk in it. Understanding that we don't become weaker because we need counsel - we become wiser because we actually recognize when we need it.
Perhaps that is part of what God has been teaching me in this season: don't reject knowledge, don't walk without counsel, stay teachable, and trust God enough to allow Him to use people to help guide you. There is safety in community when that community is rooted in truth, wisdom, and a genuine desire to see us become all God has called us to be. And sometimes, protecting what God has entrusted to us means having the humility to seek counsel before making decisions that affect it.
We were never meant to walk alone.
